Glasgow team to take on Benetton Treviso

Johnnie Beattie could be in line for his first appearance of the season
Glasgow head coach Sean Lineen wants his Warriors to maintain the levels of intensity and execution that brought a 23-19 win over Leinster in Dublin last weekend when they take on Benetton Treviso at Firhill on Friday (ko 7.30pm).
Sean told glasgowwarriors.org: “The players and staff are all rightly pleased with what we achieved in Ireland last Saturday, but that game is well and truly gone now and we need to show against Treviso that it wasn’t a flash in the pan.
“From first thing last Sunday morning, it was a case of going back through the match to identify the things that helped us secure the win, in the knowledge that we’re going to have to be just as precise and just as consistent this week.
“Against Leinster, we were strong in our work at the breakdown and set-piece, and we were alert and ambitious enough to take our scoring chances when they presented themselves.
“Treviso haven’t won a game so far this season, but we’re not fooled by that: they’re a strong, combative side who will make life difficult and give us real problems if we’re not right at the top of our game once more.”
There are three changes to the Glasgow starting line-up for Friday’s match, Pat MacArthur coming in for Finlay Gillies at hooker, Ryan Wilson slotting in at No.8 for Rory Pitman and Duncan Weir replacing Scott Wight at stand-off.
With the Leinster game having been, in Sean’s words, “hugely physical”, there are still some “bumps and bruises” in the camp, and as such ten players have today been listed as being in contention for the eight substitute berths.
Among them is back-row forward Johnnie Beattie, who has recovered from a knee injury and is thus in line for his first Warriors involvement of the season.
Sean confirmed: “It’s great to have Johnnie back in the fold. He’s a talented, confident player who has been a great asset for Glasgow Warriors for a long time, and I’ve been very impressed with how he’s dealt with not being part of the Rugby World Cup.
“He was obviously extremely disappointed not to be selected, but I’d be more worried about a player who didn’t initially react that way because it would hint at a lack of ambition.
“The great thing about Johnnie is that he quickly moved on from that disappointment and threw himself into getting back fit and performing for Glasgow Warriors.
“We’ve got good competition in the back row at the moment, with the likes of Rob Harley, Chris Fusaro, Ryan Wilson, James Eddie and Rory Pitman all showing up well. I’ve also been very happy with the way that young guys like Nick Campbell, Stuart Hogg, Peter Horne and Finlay Gillies have stepped up.
“Friday night will be another learning curve for these players, and having shown they can live with a side like Leinster, it’s about us as a team proving ourselves all over again.”
