WHATEVER happens, it is going to be a record-breaking night at Firhill as Glasgow ease their Rugby World Cup players back into club action with a daunting match against the Ospreys, the unbeaten league leaders.

A win could move the Scots up to a play-off position, but with only eight points separating second from 11th in the league and two other teams level on points, a defeat could set them plunging.

Neither record depends on the result, but for both Graeme Morrison, who will reach 150 games for the club, and Alastair Kellock, who needs to play for only 52 minutes to have spent more time on the pitch than any other player in the history of the league, the landmarks would seem insignificant if they were not accompanied by victory.

Both have something to prove after the World Cup. Kellock, despite being captain, was dropped for the crucial match against Argentina and Morrison was then left out of that England game, where Scotland’s fading hopes of reaching the knockout stage were finally laid to rest.

“I didn’t play too well against Argentina so if that was the way that selection was going to be made, it was a fair call,” admitted Morrison, who also revealed he had been carrying enough of an injury to restrict his training without rendering him unable to play. “It is just a matter of getting back to Glasgow, which is where it all started for me and where I enjoy playing my rugby. I need to work hard and get back to the way I know I can play. There is a sense of belief here, the team won in Cardiff by quite a lot of points and scored four tries in the process, so there is that belief that we have an exciting set of players in the back line who have done a very good job while the World Cup players were away.”
