Disappointing start for Scots 7s

DISAPPOINTING START FOR SCOTS IN ELCHE
Tuesday, 01 November 2011
The Scotland 7s squad have lost their opening two games at the Northern Hemisphere invitational 7s tournament in Elche, Spain.

Despite scoring five tries over the two matches against England (14-24) and Wales (19-27), it was a lack of possession and defensive execution that ultimately lost them the games.

Scotland 7s head coach, Graham Shiel, said: “It has been disappointing to lose the first two matches in the tournament so far. However England and Wales were very good.

Michael Fedo scored a try in both matches so far today

“When we had ball in hand we were challenging and threatening in attack and we finished off with five good tries.

“But we were too passive in defence letting the opposition through on too many occasions and we just didn’t gain enough possession.

“On that note though this is why we are here, to see what we need to improve ahead of the opening leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series in Australia.”

In the opening game Michael Fedo and Andrew Turnbull crossed the whitewash to tally up 14 points for the Scots. Fedo crossed again against Wales and on this occasion was joined on the try sheet by Sean Kennedy and Ross Miller.

The team are set to play two more matches today against France and Portugal. These matches will kick-off at 5pm and 6.20pm local time (which is one hour ahead of GMT).
