Glasgow Warriors are delighted to announce that Fergus Wallace has joined the club as business development manager.
A former Glasgow player who represented the district in their first Heineken Cup campaign, Wallace will head up the Warriors’ commercial operation, liaising with existing sponsors and seeking to attract new partners.
The one-time GHK, Boroughmuir, Hamilton and Glasgow Hawks flanker will also work with local clubs and schools to encourage greater engagement with the Warriors.
In addition, Wallace will seek to foster links with city businesses, so as to provide opportunities for Glasgow players to gain experience outside of rugby.
The 46-year-old told www.glasgowwarriors.org: “I’m really pleased to have this great opportunity to come on board with the Warriors. I’m joining at a tremendously exciting time for the club, with the move to Scotstoun Stadium on the horizon and a lot of positive things happening on and off the field.
“I’m looking forward to getting out into the rugby and business communities in Glasgow and the west of Scotland to really get a feel for how we can better engage with them and ensure the club fulfils its potential on and off the field.”
Wallace’s rugby journey in the region began at Clarkston RFC, from where he progressed to GHK. He captained the Glasgow district for six years, winning the Inter District Championship in season 1989/90 as his men went through the campaign undefeated and beat Fiji into the bargain.
Wallace turned out seven times for Glasgow in the 1997/98 Heineken Cup, with the home ties against Wasps, Swansea and Ulster being staged at Scotstoun, the Warriors’ current training base which will also be their home ground as of the start of next season.
Wallace represented Scotland at A and 7s level, and captained a Scotland XV on their tour of Zimbabwe in 1995.
A quantity surveyor, he has previously run his own painting and decorating business in the city.
Wallace joins the Warriors in the wake of the appointment of Nathan Bombrys as managing director. Lesley Cuthbert has also come on board as business support manager.
