Glasgow Hawks Rugby Club Glasgow Hawks Rugby Ball 2014

Welcome to Hills ancients and moderns

Hills Ancients and moderns head for OA

Quote from Hillhead Sports Club website
“What” say the Ancients, “do they know of the Hillhead Club who never Scotstoun knew?”

Initially the Club catered for many sports, including football, cricket (ladies initially!), ladies hockey and athletics, with the strongest section initially being the Literary and Debating Society! Having no grounds on which to play, the club negotiated to base itself at the Glasgow Agricultural Society's Showgrounds at Scotstoun (now Scotstoun Stadium ) which brought sport to Scotstoun for the first time.

Scotstoun which is about to become the venue for the Warriors has a long rugby tradition involving the clubs of Glasgow

Hillhead have produced a long line of rugby personalities including Ian Macgregor who also played for the RAF Llanelli and Scotland and then became a Scottish Selector and Ming Campbell who captained the British Athletics team at the Tokyo Olympics, set a British record for 100 m whilst at Stanford Uni ,led the Lib Dems and also won a Twickenham Sevens medal in the colours of Edinburgh Wanderers
I would like to have seen Ming at his best take on Thom Evans ( now being coached by Margot Wells)to decide the fastest man out of Hughenden and there were a few of them
The Jordonhill part of the equation takes you down an enirely different route with FPs and College alike with names that embrace Hawks connections like John Roxburgh Jimmy Sinclair and the sadly missed Charlie Forsyth
The College team represented that august body the Scottish School of Physical Education which turned out PE teachers for the nation and could count amongst its luminaries the likes of the current president of the SRU Ian McLauchlan
College were legendary for their methods of physical and mental preparation under the likes of Bill Dickinson whose attitude and approach to training would still stand scrutiny in today's world of professional rugby and of course one Jim Blair who introduced NZ to the grid system of training

This Saturday sees Hawks face Hills at Old ANNIESLAND K O 3.00 pm
