Glasgow Hawks confirmed their ambitions this year with a second successive five-pointer after putting Watsonians to the sword at Myreside yesterday, scoring five tries to one.
This was a hugely encouraging performance by Hawks, and especially so for coach Peter Wright, who is in the process of introducing a clutch of new players. "There are a lot of new guys in the team and they're still learning and we also made changes from last week," said Wright.

Hawks were ahead in just about every area of the game, bossing the contact area, showing thrust in midfield from centre Dean Kelbrick and providing thrilling running from full-back Craig Gossman, the star of the Myreside show. For Watsonians the only message to draw is that this is again going to be a tough season.

Hawks had the game won by half time when they led 17-3 from a penalty by Mike Adamson and his conversions of two tries by Kelbrick, both from sharp handling, to a penalty goal from Jamie Forbes.

Then after replacement Mike Ker kicked a penalty for Watsonians, Hawks turned up the pressure as No.8 Ross Miller made the thrust for a try by replacement John Malakoty, converted by Adamson before George Hunter crashed over from close range for the bonus point.

With Watsonians coach Marcus Di Rollo in the sin-bin Hawks took advantage for Andy Kirkland to finish Rory McKay's tap penalty move for try five. Just before full time Watsonians grabbed their only try from a run by Mike Fedo and fast finishing from sub Ali Rowe, to show what might be achieved in future.
