Thom pursues Ming dynasty

This weekend sees Thom Evans take to the Scotstoun track the very track that many of Scotland's fastest rugby players have graced in the past
Rugby players like Ming Campbell of Hillhead HSFP who became one of the few Scots to win a Twickenham Sevens medal and one of even fewer Scots to captain the GB Athletics team at the Olympics Ming set a UK 100 metres record whilst studying at Stanford and graced Scotstoun track in the colours of Garscube Harriers and Glasgow University
Generations of Scotland's fast men have used the following west wind down the home straight sprinters like Olympic semi finalist Willie Jack, Mike Hildrey the Balfron Bullet and former Cambuslang rugby player and two times Olympian Les Piggot

Thom Evans, the former Scotland rugby internationalist, hopes to take his athletics career to another level this weekend when he competes in the 100 metres and 200m at the Scottish National Senior Championships.

The 27-year-old is pursuing his new venture following the neck injury he sustained against Wales two years ago which threatened his life and cost him a career in professional rugby.

He said: "I am coming to Glasgow to compete in the championships and I am really looking forward to it," said Evans. "I have entered the 100m and the 200m following the 60m indoor run I did three months ago. I am enjoying athletics and this will be another part of the learning curve."
