In their first outing in the FIRA-AER European GP Sevens Series, held in Lyon, Scotland 7s won two matches and lost two.
The Scots beat the Netherlands and Ukraine 19-17 and 38-12 respectively, but despite making positive in-roads against England, they were unable to leave their mark and lost 31-19. In their opening match they came out second best against a strong Spanish outfit, 20-7.
However, the team are still in with a chance of winning the majority of their games in their group, with one more match tomorrow morning against Georgia (11am local time). Both team sit mid-table with eight points apiece.

Andrew Skeen shows his leadership, scoring three tries and nine conversions

Scotland 7s head coach, Graham Shiel, said: “This is a tough tournament with very strong teams, but our team is new to international sevens and they have stepped up to the challenge and competed well.
“Everyone has definitely taken positives away from today and despite the score the players performed very well against a quality England side.
One of the major positives from the day was that captain, Andrew Skeen, was second top points scorer with three tries and nine conversions. Also, eight of the 12 players managed to touch down on at least one occasion.
