Rugby: Cambus’ new coach has done it all in his short career
Jun 6 2012 by Kenny Smith, Rutherglen Reformer
THE appointment of Scott Forrest as Cambuslang Rugby Club coach sees him keep a promise he made to the club several years ago.
He always vowed that he would be back at his old club later in his career.
Former West Coats Primary pupil Scott made the breakthrough in club rugby at Coats Park, when his dad Dougie was the side’s coach, before moving to top flight club side Glasgow Hawks.
During this time he made the breakthrough to the Scotland under-19 squad.

In his debut year at Hawks, he made a big impression and went on to win the premiership division one title and the Scottish Cup at Murrayfield.
After another league winning year in the Hawks’ first team, Scott signed as an apprentice to Glasgow Warriors, but after a struggle to get a start for the first team at Glasgow, he moved to the Borders to play for Hawick and sign for the Border Reivers in 2006.
Unfortunately he lost his job when the team were disbanded at the end of the 2006-07 season, but he was given a chance to specialise in the 7s version of the sport.
Scott made his debut for Scotland 7s as a late squad replacement at the IRB tournaments in New Zealand and the USA in February 2006, where he helped the national side bring home the bowl from both competitions.
He captained the Rugby Ecosse squad in Singapore in October 2007, continued in the role throughout the 2007/08 IRB Series and in April 2008 led the Scottish Thistles to victory in the Melrose 125th anniversary sevens.
Injury forced him to miss the opening tournaments of the 2009/10 World Series but he returned to the squad in March 2009 for the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Dubai, and for the second half of the series.
His 28 IRB tournaments saw him accrue 100 points through 20 tries and he added selection to the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi to his list of 7s achievements.
Scott also played for his country at under-21 level, and latterly played his club rugby with Ayr, before retiring from injury after a broken ankle never fully healed and continued to cause him trouble.
