Report:
A Charity Team called Unite Against Cancer in Aid of Cancer Research took part in the Rugby Rocks 7s Competition at Meggetland in Edinburgh on Saturday. In the weeks leading up to the tournament the squad changed about 50 times. Over 30 names were on the squad list but with injuries and holidays many many pulled out leaving Callum with only a few days to the tournament with 7 names. We finally decided to turn up and play with 8 including Callum Kerr on the bench. Therefore the squad of 7 took to the field in the first game with no expectations set. It was all about playing for the Charity. The first game went better than planned as Unite against Cancer beat the Wooden Spoon select team. Next up was the British Army, the eventual winners. Giving them too much respect meant they ran out victors 24-7. We played the next game with the mentality of go out and give it everything and see what happens. Samurai was next up and they got a shock in the first half as Unite against Cancer lead at half time. Unfortunately the final result did not go Unites way but a great game non the less. Our last game in the pool was against the Penguins. By this point bodies were beginning to tire and we had picked up two injuries through Tony and Joe Junior. Penguins ran out comfortable victors. This meant Unite against Cancer were in the plate semi final. Tough opposition against an English select team. Unite had learned from previous games and played their best 7s of the day. Winning comfortably in the end. Into the Plate final and it didnt go as planned. Not only were Unite late for their final game as they thoughts it wasn't for another 20 minutes but it was against the Penguins again and having done no warm up and straight from the Changing room, the a penguins were 21-0 up before you could blink. Unite against Cancer fought back and brought the score line slightly closer but lost out in the end.

Great effort by all the lads. Especially those who played every minute. Hopefully next year we can go back and give it a go again. Most importantly the charity was represented on the day!!!
