Alex Gordon reports on Caldy match

Hawks open Pre-season with win in England

Glasgow Hawks opened their pre-season with a 14-0 win against Caldy Rugby Club in the Wirral.

Hawks won with tries from Haddon McPherson and Andy White, both were converted by James Gormley. Hawks found themselves defending in depth in the first half as Caldy’s large pack dominated. However, the Glasgow side prevented Caldy from scoring and their superior fitness told as they dominated the second half and secured a comfortable win.

Coaches Dempsey and Sinclair were particularly pleased with the way the young side stood up to a typically large English pack.

Coach Jimmy Sinclair said, “One of the biggest differences between the National League and the Premier is forward play. Packs are bigger and more athletic in the Premier, so it’s important for the boys to compete effectively next season. Caldy gave them a taste of the season to come.”

Hawks next pre-season match will be against Cartha Queens Park on Friday 16th of August.
