Hawks visit the cradle of international rugby

Hawks 1sts and 2nds travel to the historic ground Raeburn Place this coming weekend to play a double header against Edinburgh Accies
On Saturday they play on the very ground where international rugby was born in 1871 when the clubs of England accepted the challenge from the Scottish clubs to meet them 20 aside "rugby rules"
One of our founder clubs Glasgow Accies signed the challenge letter and it was a Glasgow Accie Willie Cross who scored the first ever points recorded in the history of international rugby football when he goaled a try by Buchanan of Royal High School FP-- no points for tries back then
Such was Cross's reputation with the boot that Queens Park invited him to trial for the first Soccer international agains England in 1872 but despite acquiting himself well he opted to play in the first Inter City rugby match held the same week

Where better a setting for a young Hawks squad to start making their mark

Team and match information will follow later in week
