McGee and Marr have the final say . . .

Rory McGee made his debut for local club Marr as a teenager back in 2008, but can have faced few more nerve-racking moments than sizing up a last-minute penalty attempt with a place in the semi-finals of the RBS West Regional Cup at stake, writes Gary Heatly.

Marr were trailing Hamilton Bulls 36-34 at Fullarton Park - the visitors had regained the lead by scoring a try with 60 second remaining - but managed to win a kickable penalty and the full-back, who recently turned 23 and was named man of the match, duly converted. It completed a remarkable comeback for Marr - they had trailed 28-5 at one stage - and secured top spot in Pool 4.
The victory secured the RBS Championship A side, who won three trophies last term, a visit to top-flight Glasgow Hawks' Old Anniesland ground this Saturday. McGee, who captained the first XV at Marr during the 2010/11 season and is now their development officer, said: "It was an amazing game; we seemed to be asleep in the first half and Hamilton went 21-0 up, and kept it going.

"After the break we played smarter rugby and managed to edge in front before they got the late try. In the 60 seconds remaining, we had to stay calm and the forwards put some great pressure on Hamilton to win the penalty. I went through my normal routine and, thankfully for the team, it went over. It shows we have a never-say-die attitude and are a club on the up. It [taking on Glasgow Hawks] will be a great experience for us all."
