Former Hawks CEO Kenny Baillie was in some august company recently at Richmond

HRH Princess Anne and Lord Coe appeared at Richmond Athletic Ground this weekend to watch a series of thrilling encounters between talented youngsters.

The Royal Patron of London Scottish and the chairman of the British Olympic Association were honorary guests at the fourth annual London Scottish Schools Six Nations tournament which saw England’s Campion School come out on top of schools from all over Europe.

Kenny Baillie, Chief Executive of London Scottish said: “It was a real privilege to welcome our Royal Patron, HRH Princess Anne and Lord Coe to Richmond Athletic Ground, the home of London Scottish.”

The two-day event, co-hosted by sponsors, Deutsch Bank, kicked off with an opening ceremony on Friday night in which the honorary guests were introduced to the captains and coaches from each of the eight sides.

The only team representing Scotland at the tournament was Edinburgh’s Fettes College, who made it into the final round following clean slate wins against Lycee Comte de Foix (26-0) and London Scottish (20-0).

However, they were later knocked out by losses against Rydal Penrhos, Campion School and Eastbourn

Director of Sport at Fettes College, Steve Bates, said:

This is the fourth year we’ve played in the tournament and we’ve improved every year. It highlights the fact that there are more people out there playing rugby at a higher level, so we know we need to up our game.

“We took more boys down than in previous years and meeting Princess Anne and Lord Coe really made it more special for them.”
