Glasgow Hawks Add Their Weight To Cancer Support Scotland Campaign
Oct 20 2011 By Gordon Parks
GLASGOW HAWKS coach Peter Wright hopes their partnership with Cancer Support Scotland can help their cause both on and off the pitch.
The rugby side joined forces to raise funds last weekend for a new support centre at Gartnavel Hospital.
After claiming a 19 - 13 win over Heriots Rugby Football Club at Old Anniesland - thanks to tries from Tom Steven & Ross Miller, aided by three penalties courtesy of Mikey Martin - the Glasgow side returned to form.
Wright insists it was a double success with the side and charity both emerging as winners.
He said: "It's good to get back on the winning track and with Cancer Support Scotland here as well it is a double win. It's also a great chance to raise some money for such a unique and caring organisation."
All money raised from the match will help Cancer Support Scotland create a new cancer centre next to the Beatson Cancer Centre at Gartnavel.
The new Calman Cancer Support Centre will be a fully equipped support centre with specific rooms, areas and resources to meet the needs of their patients and families.
Staff and a highly committed team of volunteers offer a warm welcome and essential support.
Colin Graham, chief executive of Cancer support Scotland said: "It is great that Glasgow Hawks are supporting us."
